Workflow

Digital dentistry can shorten selected restorative workflows.

For appropriate cases, intraoral scanning, digital design, in-office milling and ceramic finishing may allow a definitive restoration to be completed without a conventional laboratory turnaround.

Selection

Same-day is not the goal for every case.

Complex aesthetic work, large-span restorations, certain implant prostheses, or cases requiring specific laboratory expertise may benefit from a different workflow. The priority is the correct treatment—not simply the fastest treatment.

Materials

Material selection depends on the clinical problem.

Ceramic choice depends on remaining tooth structure, location, bite forces, aesthetic demands, restoration design and bonding conditions.

Common questions

What patients ask about same-day dentistry

Can every crown be made in one visit?

No. Many selected restorations can use a same-day workflow, but complex aesthetic or restorative cases may be better served by a different sequence or laboratory collaboration.

Are same-day crowns temporary?

No. When a definitive same-day ceramic restoration is appropriate, it is designed as the final restoration, not a temporary one.

Is a digital scan more accurate than an impression?

Both digital and conventional methods can be clinically effective. The best method depends on the treatment, field conditions and workflow.
